Glorious Goodwood tips: Can Glenamoy Lad spring Stewards’ Cup shock?

Horse racing betting preview and tips

After four Glorious days, Goodwood draws to a close this afternoon with four more pulsating contests live on ITV.

The Qatar Gordon Stakes is the highlight from the final day on the West Sussex Downs, while there are also three lively renewals to look forward to from Newmarket.

Ed Chamberlin and co. will broadcast six races across the afternoon. But the Coral News Team have got you covered with a nine-pronged selection of tips from both courses to see you through the day.

Dee Ex Bee can take the Gordon Stakes

Only four runners are pencilled in to tackle the 1m 4f Gordon Stakes at Goodwood this afternoon. And it’s Mark Johnston’s raider Dee Ex Bee who looks the pick of the bunch.

The three-year-old failed to light up in his two most recent runs but did show his class when finishing runner-up in the Derby at Epsom two months ago. If he can reproduce that form this afternoon, he should make light work of a field lacking genuine top-class performers.

Another shock in the Stewards’ Cup?

One of the biggest betting heats of the day sees 28 runners go to post in the Stewards’ Cup. This short, sharp sprint has been won by some long-odds winners down the years, which leads us nicely onto Glenamoy Lad at a double-figure price.

Michael Wigham’s hopeful won three times after transferring to the yard last year but hasn’t been seen since landing a 6f contest at Newcastle in November. He’s 10lb higher on his belated return to action, but that shouldn’t worry prospective punters.

Three of the last four winners of this race have done so off a mark of 95 or 96. Our pick goes off the former. And with top jockey Silvestre De Sousa booked to ride, the son of Royal Applause will have every chance.

Can Highgarden triumph at Newmarket?

The John Gosden-Frankie Dettori combination has produced plenty of big winners over the years. And they team up again at Newmarket with Highgarden in the Listed Chalice Stakes.

The Nathaniel filly hasn’t won since scoring on debut but produced an impressive run on her latest attempt over course and distance a fortnight ago. She came home in-front a number of today’s rivals that afternoon and receives weight from her main foes here, which should boost her chances.

Galmarley should also be capable of a positive run after her runner-up finish behind Pilaster last month received a boost following the winner’s success at Goodwood in the week.
