Glorious Goodwood tips: By hook or by Brook in the Nassau Stakes

Betting preview and tips for Goodwood day three

Day one at Glorious Goodwood may have been all about the favourites, but on day two it was the shocks that took centre stage.

Lightning Spear upset the applecart in the Sussex Stakes, while it was a case of like name, like nature for Feel Glorious at odds of 125/1 in the Maiden Fillies’ Stakes.

The main competitors will be hoping to avoid a similar scenario in this afternoon’s three Group contests, culminating in what looks to be a four-way battle for the Nassau Stakes.

The Coral News Team are in place once again to guide you through the action with their ITV Racing Tips…

Beware the Brook in the Nassau

Rhododendron, Urban Fox, Veracious and Wild Illusion can hardly be split at the top of the market in today’s feature. Yet it’s Billesdon Brook who grabs our attention at a chunkier price.

Course form is invaluable at Goodwood and Richard Hannon’s hopeful has it in spades. The three-year-old’s figures around the West Sussex course read 2-1-1, including back-to-back victories in August last year.

Add in her impressive 66/1 success in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket in May and you have all the form in place to suggest the filly will lay down a real challenge this afternoon. Without Parole and Expert Eye showed yesterday that favourites can falter around here, and we’re backing in a similar scenario playing out today.

Let’s get Pilastered

There’s plenty to like about Roger Varian’s charge Pilaster in the Lillie Langtry Stakes. The three-year-old has improved with each run and looked very classy indeed when winning with 6l in hand at Kempton last time out.

The way she triumphed that day suggests she can handle the step up into pattern class, and with the benefit of a low draw, the Nathaniel filly is backed to come on once again and land this Group 2 prize.

Konchek in the market

Konchek’s record of one win in four career starts isn’t much to write home about. But it could pay to delve a little deeper into that seemingly unremarkable form.

Clive Cox’s charge finished second behind Advertise in a Group 2 contest at Newmarket last time out. That performance is fine by itself. But it begins to look even better when you consider that his conqueror that day was beaten just a length by superstar two-year-old Calyx the time before last.

Likewise, his fifth in the Norfolk Stakes behind winner Shang Shang Shang and Rumble Inthejungle – a Goodwood winner yesterday – also stands up remarkably well.

Franked form has been key in a number of races already this week. We think that could continue this afternoon.
