Preview of Europa League first-leg

Burnley travel to Turkey to take on Instanbul Basaksehir in their third round Europa League qualifier tonight.

This is unchartered territory for Sean Dyche as his side are just two games away from a European group-stage. Their first foray into the competition since making the quarter-finals in 1966-67.

The game is not being televised live in the UK but the Coral News Team takes you through all the odds and tips with a Big Match Breakdown.

Head to Head and form

This will be the first clash between Burnley and their Istanbul counter-parts so both will be going in with no pre-conceived ideas.

Burnley had to overcome Aberdeen in the second qualifying round. The Clarets had to wait until extra-time in the second-leg to put the game beyond the Scottish club.

This is Basaksehir’s first match in this year’s competition after finishing third in the Turkish Super Lig.

However they’ve never won a Europa League Qualifying match (D2 L4), most recently losing both legs against Shakhtar Donetsk in August 2016.

Likely XIs

Anders Lindegaard could lose his place in the starting XI to new signing Joe Hart in goal.

Ben Gibson travelled with the squad after signing from Middlesbrough earlier this week. But James Tarkowski and Ben Mee would expect to keep their places.

Aaron Lennon and Chris Wood are sidelined for this one, so Jeff Hendrick and Ashley Barnes could come in.

Matej Vydra wasn’t ready to link up with his new side after arriving from Derby County.

Emmanuel Adebayor, Gael Clichy and Arda Turan should all start for the Turkish club. Former Southampton loanee Eljero Elia will battle with Edin Visca for a place on the wing.

Milos Jojic signed from relegated FC Koln in the Bundesliga and could make an appearance from the bench.

Key Battles

Whether the battling duo of Tarkowski and Mee can thwart Adebayor and Riad Bajic will be the true test.

There won’t be much pace on the flanks for Burnley with Lennon out. But Johann Berg Gudmundsson will hope to cause Gael Clichy some problems.

Sam Vokes will be the focal point, especially with Wood left at home.

Jojic could come off the bench to make a real impact for the Turks.

Match Odds

Burnley are 3/1 to take the win back to Turfmoor. Basaksehir are 21/20 for victory.

Both teams to score is also at 21/20 with BTTS and the Turkish club to win at 19/5.

Emmanuel Adebayor will be a big threat to the Burnley defence. The former Premier League forward is 13/8 to notch any time.

Elia is 6/1 to score first.

Sam Vokes scored the vital goal in the first leg against Aberdeen. He’s 15/8 to bag any time.

Ashley Barnes is 10/1 to score two or more, whilst Jack Cork is 8/1 to repeat his heroics and score again.
