Odds and tips for Europa League showdown

After a 1-1 draw at Pittodrie, Aberdeen and Burnley meet for the second leg of their Europa League qualifier at Turf Moor tonight.

Premier League Burnley have the edge after grabbing an away goal in Scotland. Can Derek McInnes’ side net one of their own tonight to make things interesting?

You can catch the game on BT Sport 1 from 7.45pm, and the Coral News Team are on hand with the Big Match Breakdown…

Head-to-Head

Last week’s clash was the first ever meeting between the two sides. There’s no league form to speak of as yet, but historically Aberdeen have far greater European pedigree.

The Dons won the Cup Winners’ Cup under Sir Alex Ferguson in 1983, beating Real Madrid en route. They won the Super Cup a year later.

Recent history hasn’t been quite so successful, however. The Dons have entered Europa League qualifying in each of the last four seasons, but failed to make the group stages on each occasion.

Aberdeen have lost four of their last six Europa League qualifiers away from home, although all four of the last European meetings between Scottish and English sides have finished a draw.

Likely XIs

Burnley boss Sean Dyche has a bit of a goalkeeping nightmare on his hands tonight. Nick Pope is out after needing surgery following an injury in the first leg.

Tom Heaton is also a doubt while Anders Lindegaard is fit to play but is also carrying a knock. The Clarets may ask UEFA for special dispensation to give Adam Legzdins his club debut.

Further forward, Robbie Brady and Steven Defour should be able to shake off minor niggles in time.

Aberdeen aren’t fully fit either. Mark Reynolds and Greg Tansey are out, although Andrew Considine could return.

Key Battles

McInnes’ men went gung-ho from the get-go last week, as they really had to on home soil.

They will need to do so again at Turf Moor, especially given that they are out if they cannot score.

An early goal would really put the cat amongst the pigeons in Lancashire.

But if they can’t, then Dyche’s resolute, workmanlike Clarets have the quality to get the job done tonight.

Match Odds

At 4/9 to win in 90 minutes, Burnley appear reasonably comfortable in the betting. There’s 7/1 about a surprise Aberdeen success, while a draw is 3/1.

The only result which can take this to extra-time is another 1-1, which stands at 13/2

There’s 14/1 about the Dons winning 1-0, while tonight’s most likely scoreline is a 1-0 home win at 17/4.

Burnley hitman Chris Wood leads the first goalscorer betting at 2/1, with Mackay-Steven 14/1 to again bag the opener.
