Who are the five best Premier League signings of the summer?

Alisson, Seri and Shaqiri are on the list

The Premier League transfer window shuts earlier than usual this year, but that hasn’t stopped the clubs spending record amounts.

More than £1bn has been spent this summer, as teams desperately prepare themselves for the upcoming season.

But who has used their money wisely? The Coral News Team have picked out five signings which may prove to be the deals of the summer…

Fulham – Jean Michael Seri

Fulham have made a number of potentially shrewd signings this summer. But the Cottagers’ acquisition of Jean Michael Seri is the best of the bunch.

Seri has shone for Nice over the past three seasons and was heavily linked with a move to Barcelona last summer.

The central midfielder has arrived in London for £27m and should give Fulham a real controlling presence and panache in the middle of the park.

Liverpool – Xherdan Shaqiri

Liverpool have been busy too in the off-season. The Reds have signed Fabinho, Naby Keita and Alisson Becker for big money.

But it’s the shrewd swoop for Xherdan Shaqiri which has piqued our interest. The Switzerland star was relegated with Stoke City last season and had no intention of playing in the Championship.

He’s moved to Anfield for just £13m. Blessed with exquisite talent, Shaqiri could thrive alongside Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.

Liverpool – Alisson Becker

Loris Karius’ double howler in the Champions League Final only laid bare how desperately Jurgen Klopp needed a new goalkeeper.

Some £66m later and the German appears to have found his man in Alisson from Roma.

A top keeper is de rigueur for any side harbouring silverware these days, and though he wasn’t cheap, the Brazilian will be worth every penny if he can help Liverpool win the Premier League.

Wolves – Joao Moutinho

Connections may have helped seal the deal, but Wolverhampton Wanderers’ £5m signing of Joao Moutinho is a stunning piece of business.

The midfield ace is still only 31-years-old, and should bring quality and experience in abundance to Molineux.

Moutinho has won league titles with Porto and Monaco, plus the Europa League. He’s a European Championship winner too, so for a newly promoted club to grab his signature is quite the coup.

Arsenal – Lucas Torreira

New Arsenal boss Unai Emery has made five signings, including Uruguayan Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria for £27m.

The 22-year-old has made a real name for himself during the past two seasons in Italy. Playing in the holding role, Torreira has shown a real knack for breaking up play.

He’s composed and disciplined too, which is something sometimes missing in an Arsenal player. The Gunners have been lacking a truly adept defensive midfielder for some time. Their search might now be over.
