Racing Tips: Invincible Army to hack up in the Hackwood?
Saturday racing tips and preview
The countdown to Glorious Goodwood is on. But before that, there’s a nice mix of flat racing and the return of jump action on ITV3 this afternoon.
Ed Chamberlin and co. will be anchored at Newbury, where the 6f Hackwood Stakes is the feature. The Weatherbys Super Sprint provides the main betting heat at 3:35pm, while National Hunt eyes will be on Market Rasen for the Summer Plate Handicap at 3:15pm.
The Coral News Team has picked out their selections for all of the day’s televised action. And you can check them out below.
Can Invincible Army hack up in the Hackwood?
It’s possible to make a case for a number of the main contenders in the Hackwood Stakes. But it’s Invincible Army who gets the nod from us.
James Tate’s raider has impressed in Group company for some time and didn’t get the rub of the green at Royal Ascot last time out. The three-year-old was hampered in the wrong group which ultimately put pay to his chances.
Strike through that run – as the Coral News Team are willing to do – and his form stands up pretty well. Two victories at this level and a hat-trick of frame finishes in Group 2 company make him a prime candidate here. He’s a nice price and should provide joy for each-way backers at the very least.
Time to work out the Kinks?
Looking at the trends could pay when trying to find a winner of the Super Sprint at Newbury.
Each of the last 10 winners had won at least once prior to their run in the race. Four of the last five winners have weighed in at between 8-7 and 9-1. And each of the previous five victors has been drawn between stalls 10-15.
On that basis, the Coral News Team are siding with Kinks. Mick Channon’s raider is a classy sort who wasn’t disgraced when sixth behind the highly-impressive Shang Shang Shang in the Norfolk Stakes.
This is a significant drop in class for the Sixties Icon colt, and off a nice weight and with a nice draw, he looks well placed to do some damage.
Summer Plate selection
National Hunt fans rejoice! The jumps are back. And they’re back with a bang thanks to the ultra-competitive Summer Plate.
Familiar names Geordie Des Champs, Viconte Du Noyer and Calett Mad are all lined up to tackle the 2m 5½f Handicap Chase. But it’s summer specialist Bagad Bihoue who is taken to land the Listed contest.
Paul Nicholls’ raider is five from nine over fences and disposed of last year’s winner Acala in dominant fashion at Newton Abbot last month.
Eight wins from nine previous runs between May and August suggest the seven-year-old does his best work during the summer months, so it makes sense to stick with the Nickname gelding in this one.
