Barcelona begin title defence against Alaves

Domestic football is now firmly in sight as we embark on the final month of the transfer window.

La Liga clubs will be stepping up their activity in the transfer market, especially now knowing the fate of their fixture calendar.

The Coral News Team peer into the now Cristiano Ronaldo-less world of La Liga at where the big stories will be…

Opening Day

Barcelona are looking to retain their league title when they kick-off against Alaves.

The reigning champions are 1/12 to start with a win. Alaves are at 11/2 for victory.

A draw between the pair is at 18/1.

However it’s the match at the Mestalla Stadium which will turn the most heads. It will be last season’s second-place versus fourth-position as Valencia take on Atletico Madrid.

Both teams will fancy their chances here. Los Che are 7/4 to claim the three points. Atletico have retained Antoine Griezmann for yet another year and are 11/5 for the win.

The sides draw 0-0 in the same fixture last year. A point apiece here is 5/4.

Other notable opening fixtures include Real Madrid hosting Getafe. Los Blancos are 1/6 for victory. Their visitors start at 9/2 for the win.

Derby days

El Classico resumes for yet another season of fierce rivalry. New Barca signing Malcom may get his first taste of the famous occasion at the Nou Camp on 28th October.

The return fixture between Barca and Real is to be played at the Santiago Bernabeu on March 3rd.

The Madrid derby is always one to keep an eye out for and has also meant a lot for the destination of the title in recent years.

Atleti are a 14/1 pick for the title and travel to Real on 30th September. They host the arch-enemy on 9th February.

The Seville derby resume between Sevilla and Real Betis. The first match up at Betis is on match-day three.

In the Basque country, regional rivals Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad face off at the San Mames on week-eight of the season.

Last day

The final day of the league season could prove pivotal and throws up some intriguing ties.

Real Madrid host Betis but will be wary of the Seville side who beat them 1-0 at the Bernabeu last last season.

Valencia will be hoping they’ve secured Champions League when they take on Real Valladolid.

Eibar host Barcelona in a duel that has featured at least four goals in three out of the last four games.

Atletico face Levante and last season’s fifth-placed Villarreal travel to Getafe.

New-boys SD Huesca end their first ever La Liga campaign against Leganes.
