Wednesday’s Wimbledon Tips: Isner and Djokovic to do the business

Battle for Wimbledon glory is hotting up
It’s down to the nitty gritty at Wimbledon now. The Women’s semi-finals are tomorrow, and today’s clashes see eight players in the Men’s game looking to reach that stage.
Once again, the Coral News Team have a quartet of top tips on the action, beginning with John Isner’s bid for a first ever Grand Slam semi-final.
Previous meetings have generally gone the way of the veteran American. Isner has won three of the pair’s four clashes. And he’ll surely be confident ahead of the first Grand Slam clash between himself and Raonic.
It’s likely to be a close affair, but the 33-year-old has had the better 2018 thus far. He also reached the Fourth Round at Roland Garros, while the Canadian has had some struggles with form and injury this year. The signs suggest Isner can edge this one.
Previous encounters between these two could hardly be more one-sided. Djokovic has won the last 12 meetings. Nearly all of those victories have been extremely convincing – five of the previous seven have been in straight sets.
The Serb has a terrific record at Wimbledon, having reached four of the last seven finals, winning three of them. As for Nishikori, he’s never made it past the last eight in London. This should be a very one-sided affair.
To say Federer has been dominant in SW19 this year would be an understatement. Not only is he yet to drop a single set, he’s won every one of his first four games by a margin of at least nine games.
Anderson is the toughest opponent he’s faced so far, so this might not be quite so comprehensive a mauling. However, the South African has made hard work of his games in Section Two – dropping sets to Andreas Seppi and Gael Monfils.
All things considered, Federer should win this with room to spare.
If past history between this pair is any indicator, this should be a real thriller. The past four meetings have seen two wins apiece – including a thrilling comeback win for Nadal at last year’s U.S. Open.
It’s rare that either player dominates this fixture. Only two of the last seven meetings have been won in straight sets. With both men looking pretty imperious up to now at Wimbledon, it seems likely that both will pick up at least one set in this quarter-final.
