Juventus ace could be Premier League-bound

Chelsea are on the back foot ahead of the new Premier League campaign, but they could be on course to sign Gonzalo Higuain.

The Blues finally parted ways with former boss Antonio Conte, and have brought in ex-Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri.

That doesn’t solve their problems, however. It seems clear that things are not working out between Chelsea and Alvaro Morata, and that’s where Higuain comes in, as we discussed a couple of weeks ago.

Transfer dominoes

But as is often the case in the transfer market, a domino effect could really aid the West Londoners if Higuain arrives.

The Juventus striker has seen his side spend around £90m on Cristiano Ronaldo. Not only could the Portuguese ace push Higuain out of the side, Juve might need to balance the books.

But having previously played for, and flourished, under Sarri at Napoli with 38 goals in 42 games, a Premier League reunion could be on the cards for Higuain and his former coach.

Higuain fits the Chelsea blueprint

Chelsea thrive when they have a powerhouse forward. Think Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Didier Drogba or Diego Costa.

Morata is not what sort of player, and neither really, is Olivier Giroud. But Higuain is an all-out goalscoring machine.

He’s a chunky brute too, and could be the man Chelsea have been looking for since Costa’s relationship with the club imploded and he rejoined Atletico Madrid.

Sarri faces a race against time, however. He’s seen Liverpool and Arsenal make major strides forward this summer, and he joined Chelsea relatively late in pre-season.

But if he were to sign Higuain, that could be a major stepping point towards any title hopes or top-four ambitions.
