Preview and tips ahead of final group games

Wednesday hosts a quadruple blockbuster of World Cup fixtures in Groups E and F.

There’s a lot on the line in both pools with up to three teams in each still in with a shot of qualification.

Germany’s vital clash with South Korea is already covered in-depth in our Big Match Breakdown. So the Coral News Team concentrates efforts on the trio of games elsewhere.

Mexico v Sweden, 3:00pm

This group is literally wide open with all four teams still in with a chance of qualifying. Mexico are in pole position knowing a point here will guarantee them top spot.

Mexico are 11/8 to win, with Sweden out at 21/10. The Draw is available at 11/5.

Both sides are likely to field the same XIs who took to the field on matchday two. Sweden will have to match Germany’s result to be in with a chance. That will mean having to go at the Mexicans at some point, and that could spell danger.

Osorio’s side have been ruthless on the counter-attack so far. That could mean a relatively end-to-end game. Both Teams To Score is 20/23, and Over 2.5 Goals is 23/20.

Hirving Lozano has been a revelation at these finals for El Tri. The PSV Eindhoven ace scored against Germany and looked dangerous throughout both games. He’s 23/10 to score Anytime.

Penalties have played a huge part in this tournament. Andreas Granqvist has already taken and scored one for Sweden. He’s 13/2 Anytime.

Serbia v Brazil, 7:00pm

Group E is a fascinating three-way battle for qualification. Brazil are 8/15 for the victory, with Serbia at 11/2. The draw is available at 3/1.

In reality, Serbia really need a win here to qualify. The Swiss play the already-eliminated Costa Rica, so unless there’s an upset there, Serbia could be in trouble.

But it’s still all to play for. And it’s not like Brazil look at their domineering best. Selecao have spluttered a little in Russia.

However, Tite’s changes at half-time against Costa Rica really spurred them on. Douglas Costa and Roberto’s introductions injected pace, direct running and invention into the side.

Unfortunately, Douglas Costa is out with an injury for this. But Firmino could start. Fernandinho is also pushing for a place ahead of Paulinho.

The group dynamics mean this game should suit Brazil. Serbia need to come out and play, and Brazil thrive on the counter-attack.

But can we rely on a Serbia goal? Tite’s side have been very solid since his appointment and they don’t tend to concede too many goals.

Brazil to win and Over 1.5 Goals is 20/23. Neymar finally got on the scoresheet in the previous game. The Paris Saint-Germain forward is 11/4 score first and 5/2 to bag two or more.

For Serbia, Aleksandar Mitrovic is 2/1 Anytime.

Switerland v Costa Rica, 7:00pm

There are very few easy games in World Cups but this really should be a gimme for Switzerland.

The Swiss are 4/6 to nick the win, with Costa Rica heavy underdogs at 9/2. The Draw is 5/2.

Costa Rica have looked poor in both games, and rarely look like scoring. Los Ticos have bagged just once in their last four games and have now suffered eight defeats in their last 10 clashes.

Die Nati aren’t renowned for their goalscoring exploits either. Fifteen of their last 20 tournament games have gone Under 2.5 Goals.

However, Vladimir Petkovic’s side have lost just once in their last 24 games in all competitions. They tend to find a way to get the job done.

Switzerland to win and Under 2.5 Goals is 12/5. Switzerland to Win to Nil is also at 6/4. Costa Rica were level at the break in both previous group games. The First-Half Result – Draw is Evens.
