Arsenal v Man City headline opening day
The World Cup might be kicking-off later today but the eyes of the Premier League are firmly on next season’s fixture announcement.
And the Premier League generator hasn’t disappointed with some stand-out matches and potential story-lines from the word go.
The Coral News Team provide a run-down of the games that simply can’t be missed during the 2018-19 campaign.
Opening Day
You can’t start anywhere else other than the Emirates on the opening weekend.
Manchester City begins the defence of their title against Arsenal.
New Gunners boss Unai Emery might take some respite out of the fact Pep Guardiola’s men might not be in full flight quite yet.
Arsenal only lost two games at home last season but one of those was a 0-3 humbling to City.
They also face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on game-week two. Maximum points from their first two games for the Gunners is at 14/1.
This will be an exciting day for the players of the three promoted teams.
Fulham open their first top-flight campaign in four years at home to Crystal Palace.
Cardiff City take a summer road trip to the South-Coast. Neil Warnock’s men travel to Bournemouth on their return to the Premier League.
Wolves’ reward for cantering to the Championship title is hosting Marco Silva’s new side Everton at Molineux.
The hosts are 17/10 to keep their winning momentum going.
Tottenham’s first game at their new stadium will be a top-six clash with Liverpool in September.
Derby Days
The fixture list algorithms have thrown up two weekends of derby duels as Merseyside and North London take centre-stage.
December 1st gives us the first instalment of the Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton.
Both fixtures finished in draws last season and are always tightly contested despite league position.
Arsenal entertain North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates on the same day.
The reverse fixtures are also on the same weekend in March.
The first Manchester Derby takes place at the Etihad Stadium on 10th December.
Both sides took maximum points from each other away from home in the two fixtures last season.
A growing rivalry is developing between Liverpool and Manchester City. All four of their games against each other were riveting in 2017-18.
The Reds have won their last three matches against The Citizens including the 4-3 home win in January.
They face each other in October but it could be the New Years’ Day fixture that tells us more about where the two clubs are.
Boxing Day
There’s talk that the Premier League may be getting a mid-season break but Boxing Day football will remain!
A day in the calendar that fans, players and managers all look out for.
There’s often some shock results around this time as manager’s look to shuffle their packs in the congested Christmas period.
This season it’s served up a real classic Boxing Day feast as Liverpool take on Newcastle United.
In the last five games between the two sides there have been at least two goals in each.
Notable other games see two of the promoted sides lock horns at Craven Cottage as Fulham face Wolves.
As well as a London derby between Watford and Chelsea at Vicarage Road.
Final flourish
Chelsea head to Old Trafford in March as they look to return to the Champions League.
There’s typically a lot to play for on the final day of the season and this could be no different.
City travel to the Amex and might need points to secure a second successive title.
Cardiff City may require three points to stave off relegation at Old Trafford. Wolves will hope their Premier League status is confirmed when they take the trip to Anfield.
Fulham finish their season at home to Newcastle.
Manchester City are at 8/13 to retain their championship. Liverpool start favourites to be their nearest challengers at 5/1.
