Three players Tottenham should target this summer

Pochettino will expect backing from the board

Mauricio Pochettino has done a remarkable job at Tottenham Hotspur during his time in charge.

He’s turned them into a regular presence in the Champions League. And he’s helped the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli develop into genuine stars.

But towards the end of the campaign he hinted that his future depended on the club showing enough ambition to take the next step.

If it was a negotiating tactic, it worked a treat. He was rewarded with a new five-year contract last week, presumably having been assured about the club’s plans.

With that in mind, the Coral News Team have identified three players that could come in and make an immediate impact for Spurs…

Wilfried Zaha

Is Wilfried Zaha the best player outside the top six? He made a pretty strong case with nine league goals last season. If it wasn’t for his quality going forward, Crystal Palace would almost certainly have gone down – they lost all nine top-flight games he didn’t feature in.

Zaha wouldn’t come cheap, but the 25-year-old can offer Spurs a different dimension going forward.

Pochettino’s side occasionally struggle against defences that sit deep. Zaha’s ability to beat a man and open up space would be very useful. He’d have to be closely marked by opposition defences too, giving the likes of Kane, Alli and Christian Eriksen more room to operate.

Layvin Kurzawa

Danny Rose could well be off this summer after falling out of favour in North London. If he does move on, Kurzawa would be the ideal replacement at left-back. He’s more athletic than Ben Davies and a real threat going forward.

The France international lost his place in the side in the Paris Saint-Germain side to Yuri Berchiche towards the end of the campaign. And PSG’s need to comply with FFP means he could be available this summer.

Spurs may need to move quickly though. The 25-year-old has also been linked with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.

Kalidou Koulibaly

It seems like it’s a matter of time before Toby Alderweireld moves on this summer. He’s evens to sign for Manchester United.

Spurs have been linked with Matthjis De Ligt as a replacement, but that would leave Jan Vertonghen as the only experienced centre-back at the club. Koulibaly has the experience to slot in straight away and at 26-years-old, the Napoli centre-back is yet to reach his peak years.

He’s been linked with a move to Chelsea, but Spurs would be able to offer him Champions League football and a similar style of play to what he’s used to.
