The three big talking points ahead of Russia v Egypt

Will we see Mohamed Salah?

Tuesday night’s clash between Russia and Egypt sees the second round of group games get underway.

And as the group stages progress, so the pressure builds.

There’s plenty at stake for this one in Saint Petersburg, and the Coral News Team are on hand to discuss the three major talking points…

Will Salah play?

Egypt were playing smoke and mirrors when they said Mohamed Salah would play against Uruguay.

The Liverpool star never featured. But it could be argued that the Egyptians were always likely to lose that one, so why risk their talisman?

Four days have passed since that late defeat on Friday. Has that given Salah enough time to make his mark in Russia?

Result could decide the group

This match is arguably the most important in Group A. Russia know victory would see them into the round of 16, while Egypt know it’s a must-win fixture for them.

Equally, an Egypt win would put the pressure on Russia, who still have to play Uruguay.

It’s unlikely that Saudi Arabia will get anything from Uruguay, so one of these two sides will be reaching the knockout stages.

Will Cheryshev and Golovin shine again?

Saudi Arabia didn’t exactly impress last Thursday, but that’s not to take away from the excellent performances of Denis Cheryshev and Aleksandr Golovin.

The former showed just why Real Madrid were so keen to sign him to their academy aged just 12-years-old with a pair of fine finishes. Golovin ran the show before helping himself to Russia’s fifth in stoppage time.

If the pair are on-form again, then it may be beyond even Salah to grab a vital Egypt win.
