Betting preview and odds for today’s racing

After the excitement of Royal Ascot last week it’s back to basics this afternoon at Newcastle and Newmarket.

But that’s not to say there’s not plenty to enjoy from the day’s racing.

The ITV crew have lined up six live races, beginning at the slightly earlier time of 12:20pm, featuring a pair of Group 3s, two handy sprints and a couple of nice looking stayers’ contests.

There’s also a big meeting over in the Emerald Isle as Saxon Warrior bids to return to winning ways in the Irish Derby. You can read our preview of that here.

With plenty to enjoy, the Coral News Team are on hand to guide you through the day’s action…

Check out the Scenery at Newcastle

We kick things off on the all-weather, where Natural Scenery will be looking to improve on last year’s runner-up finish in the Northumberland Plate.

Trainer Saeed bin Suroor has found a bit of form recently and his raider has enviable form on the tapeta. The five-year-old has figures of 1112 on the surface and is two from three at Newcastle.

The Coral News Team think she can get back to winning ways on one of her favourite hunting grounds following a series of disappointing runs in Meydan. Roger Charlton’s Withhold provides the main opposition after landing the Cesarewitch last term.

Another bafta for Yafta?

There’s an interesting look to the Group 3 Chipchase Stakes, with a classy field declared for the 6f sprint. Raiders Kimberella, Intisaab and Top Score boast strong form on the artificial surface.

But it’s Richard Hannon and Yafta who get our vote with Coral ambassador Jim Crowley on board. The three-year-old has yet to finish outside of the places since coming fourth on debut at Chester last year.

He’s put in a series of impressive performances in mid-size handicaps this term and looks a good bet to step-up to Group company, albeit on the all-weather.

The Dark Angel colt gave away 21lb when second by a length to Maksab at Newmarket last time out and can return to the winners’ enclosure here.

Tabarrak can land the Criterion

All bar one of the seven raiders set to line-up for the Criterion Stakes at Newmarket have tasted Listed or Pattern Company success in the past.

It’s a race laden with quality. Yet it’s Tabarrak who stands out above the rest.. Richard Hannon’s runner is a triple 7f-1m Listed winner, most recently in the Spring Trophy at Haydock.

He followed that up with a ½l third behind D’bai and Larchmont Lad in the Group 3 John of Gaunt Stakes last time out. The son of Acclamation can reverse that form here with everything in his favour on good-to-firm ground.
