UFC Liverpool: All you need to know
Who, what, where, and when…
Liverpool hosts its first-ever UFC event as the Echo Arena welcomes Dana White and co. on May 27th.
And they have a main event to match as the city’s own Darren Till goes up against Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson.
Till is one of the sport’s most exciting up-and-coming stars and gets to showcase his talent against a bonafide UFC veteran in Thompson.
The Coral News Team provide all the key info and dates ahead of the big event…
Main event
It’s certainly the most intriguing question of the night. Till has been touted as a possible future Conor McGregor opponent.
He’s quick, powerful, and maintains serious power with expertise based in Muay Thai.
However, Wonderboy is a legitimate player in the UFC welterweight division with big wins over Johny Hendricks and Rory MacDonald in recent years. The American drew with the fearsome Tyron Woodley in their welterweight clash before losing the re-match.
Till will have his hands-full but if he can get the win it would be a signature moment for the Liverpool native.
Who else is on the card?
Unfortunately, Gunnar Nelson – one of John Kavanagh and SBG’s stars – had to pull out through injury.
The Icelandic fighter was due to fight Neil Magny but a knee injury forced his removal from the card. Magny will remain on the card with a new opponent yet to be announced.
Elsewhere, top bantamweight prospects Gina Mazany and Lina Lansberg lock horns. Mazany is a former title contender and will be looking to make another big splash on Merseyside.
The current undercard is currently looking like this:
- Gina Mazany vs. Lina Lansberg
- Arnold Allen vs. Mads Burnell
- Daniel Kelly vs. Tom Breese
- Elias Theodorou vs. Trevor Smith
- Jason Knight vs. Makwan Amirkhani
- David Teymur vs. Don Madge
Where can you watch it?
UFC Liverpool sold out in little under an hour. The 11,000-capacity venue will be packed to the rafters. And, apparently, some tickets are being sold at nearly £2,000 a go.
If you’ve not been lucky enough to bag a ticket, thankfully you’ll not miss a beat of the action.
BT Sport will be showing the event, live from the Echo Arena, with coverage starting from 8:00pm.
