The 3 players Arsenal must sign in the summer
Two defenders and a midfielder needed
It’s a new dawn at Arsenal this summer as the North London outfit welcome new head coach Unai Emery to replace Arsene Wenger.
And that surely won’t be the last pair in and out of the exit door at the Emirates. The Arsenal squad is in dire need of surgery.
It will be fascinating to see what a new coach gets out of certain players. But there will be a number whose future surely likes away from the Gunners.
The Coral News Team suggest three players in two different positions that would automatically improve the starting XI.
Centre-Back – Jonny Evans
He might not be the elite-level defender that Arsenal fans crave, but Jonny Evans is a no-brainer.
The Northern Ireland international has just about entered his prime and is reportedly available for just £3m. West Bromwich Albion will be loathe to lose their captain but Evans is far too good to be playing Championship football.
He’s a solid, no-nonsense option who rarely makes mistakes. He’s got decent pace, reads the game well and commands leadership. Shkodran Mustafi, he isn’t.
Centre-Back – Sokratis Papastathopoulos
Speaking of no-nonsense defenders, they don’t come more brutish than Greece international, Sokratis.
The Borussia Dortmund defender reportedly wants out of BVB and a host of Europe’s big names are interested. Having played at the Westfalenstadion for a number of years now, the 29-year-old would be more than comfortable with Arsenal’s style of football.
He’s big, powerful, decent on the ball and aerially commanding. Papastathopoulos takes no prisoners, either. He’s got unshakeable self-belief and it’s something Arsenal badly need at the back.
Central Midfield – Jean-Michael Seri
With Santi Cazorla’s sad departure, a much-needed space needs to be filled in the Gunners’ midfield. In fact, it’s been an on-going issue for a while now.
And Jean-Michael Seri fits the bill when it comes to taking it. In fact, Seri could fill a couple of them. The Ivory Coast international is a terrier of a midfielder with a bit of panache about him, too.
Barcelona were very close to bagging the Nice midfielder last summer before the Ligue 1 club refused to let him go.
Seri is in the same bracket of midfielder as Liverpool’s new signing, Naby Keita. He may be small in stature, but the 26-year-old is a fierce competitor who can win the ball, and then spray it.
