Trainer Aidan O’Brien is eyeing up an unprecedented treble of triumphs in the 1,000 Guineas, 2,000 Guineas and Kentucky Derby this weekend. And Coral have shortened odds on two of his likely contenders with.

In the Kentucky Derby, current favourite Mendelssohn is 10/3 for glory, having previously been priced up at 4/1.

Meanwhile, Saxon Warrior is 5/1 (from 11/2) to win the 2,000 Guineas. But even if the three-year-old falls short, O’Brien could well still record a winner. That’s because fellow Ballydoyle runner Gustav Klimt is 2/1 favourite in the race.

There’s also an O’Brien charge at the head of the 1,000 Guineas betting. Happily is the 5/2 favourite, with the filly looking for a fifth win in her last six outings.

Coral’s David Stevens said: “Gustav Klimt remains a firm favourite for the season’s opening Classic, and we’ve now seen the first solid support for Saxon Warrior in the build-up to the QIPCO 2,000 Guineas.”

Stevens added: “Meanwhile Mendelssohn has firmed up at the head of the Kentucky Derby market, with punters clearly believing Aidan O’Brien can follow up last year’s record-breaking Group One haul with a remarkable treble this weekend.”
