Odds update for Saturday’s Group 1 contest
Elarqam has shot to the top of the market ahead of Saturday’s Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh.
Mark Johnston’s raider is now 7/4 for the Group 1 prize from 3/1 a week ago. The Frankel colt finished fourth behind Saxon Warrior last time out in the English equivalent and is now fancied to do the business across the Irish Sea.
He leads dual Group 1 winner US Navy Flag at 11/4, who has replaced stablemate Gustav Klimt (7/2) as the closest challenger to the market leader.
The latter of the Aidan O’Brien duo has already won three times over in Ireland but failed to impress on his latest run behind both Elarqam and Saxon Warrior in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.
Elsewhere, Tipperary-based trainer James Stack runs the unbeaten Zihba (13/2). Symbolization rounds out the sub-20/1 shots for Charlie Appleby at 14/1.
“Connections of Elarqam have plenty of confidence in their runner and that is shared by punters who have backed the colt into favouritism. US Navy Flag has replaced his Ballydoyle stablemate Gustav Klimt as the closest challenger to the market leader,” said Coral’s David Stevens.
