European giants battling for UCL final spot

Real Madrid came from behind to grab a crucial 2-1 victory in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final with Bayern Munich.

Los Blancos are looking to lift this trophy for the fourth time in five seasons. Bayern were the last non-Spanish side to win the competition back in 2013, and want to keep their dream of a treble alive.

Ahead of this titanic tussle, the Coral News Team go in-depth with a Big Match Breakdown…

Head-To-Head

Madrid have won four of the last five meetings in 90 minutes, with the other a 4-2 victory after extra-time at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Cristiano Ronaldo has tended to have a big say in this fixture, scoring seven goals in four meetings – including a brace in both legs of last season’s UCL quarter-finals.

However, while Der FCB haven’t had a win in this fixture since 2012, they’ve been more competitive in the last few clashes – finding the net in each of the last three.

Likely XIs

Both sides have regularly utilised a 4-3-3 system, and with the visitors needing to score twice in the Spanish capital that’s likely to be the case again.

Injuries have created selection headaches for both managers. However, Real are likely to have teenage prodigy Achraf Hakimi deputising for the sidelined Dani Carvajal.

In attack, Cristiano Ronaldo will spearhead a front three once again. Marco Asensio and Gareth Bale could be the men either side of him.

The visitors are missing a string of key men – a fact which could help Real put this tie to bed. However, they’re able to field a strong midfield contingent, including James Rodriguez, Javi Martinez and Corentin Tolisso.

Real v Bayern predicted XIs

Key Battles

Considering his stunning form – 26 goals in 16 games – and record against Bayern, the tussle between Bayern’s pacy backline and Ronaldo should be an intriguing one. They kept him from scoring last time, but will need to nullify his overall impact to earn a result.

At the other end, the somewhat untested Hakimi could face a baptism of fire against a Bayern frontline including 39-goal man Robert Lewandowski and the evergreen Franck Ribery.

Match Odds

In the match betting, Real are 11/10 for victory on the night. Meanwhile, a draw at the Bernabeu is a 14/5 shot, with a Bayern win priced at 21/10.

Both sides boast prolific goal-merchants – a fact reflected by the odds of 4/11 for Both Teams to Score. Meanwhile, it’s 21/10 for Madrid to Win and BTTS.

Cristiano Ronaldo is 4/6 to find the net, with the Portuguese ace 5/2 to bag Two or More Goals. Meanwhile, his counterpart Lewandowski is 19/20 to Score Anytime.

Los Blancos have won three of their last four games by a 2-1 scoreline, and are 8/1 for another 2-1 victory. Meanwhile, Zinedine Zidane’s men are 7/1 to Win From Behind as they did in the first leg.
