Odds and tips ahead of the Europa League final

All eyes will be on Lyon tonight as Marseille take on Atletico Madrid in the Europa League final.

Atletico are eyeing their third Europa League triumph since 2010. This is Marseille’s first European final since 2004. And their chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League could hinge on lifting the trophy here.

Ahead of the big game, the Coral News Team have all the info…

Head to Head

These two clubs have only met twice before, back in the 2008-09 Champions League group stage. Atletico won at home and the other game ended 0-0.

Both sides have had relatively tough runs to the final. Marseille knocked out Athletic Bilbao, RB Leipzig and then secured their spot in the final with an extra-time win against Red Bull Salzburg.

After dropping out of the Champions League, Atletico faced Lokomotiv Moscow, Sporting CP and then stood firm under heavy pressure in their semi-final against Arsenal.

Likely XIs

Marseille v Atletico teams

Rolando and Kostas Mitroglou are both fighting to be fit for Marseille. If they don’t make it, Luiz Gustavo is likely to slot into defence, with Valere Germain filling in up front.

Atletico boss Diego Simeone could opt for experience here. That would mean choosing Juanfran and Felipe Luis in the full-back positions ahead of Sime Vrsaljko and Lucas Hernandez.

Stefan Savic will also come in at centre-back if Jose Gimenez isn’t fit enough to start.

Key Battles

Marseille may be underdogs but their attacking play can cause problems for anyone. Their problem is that there aren’t many sides around that relish defending like Atletico.

The French side will look to Florient Thauvin to stretch the play and Dimitri Payet to take advantage of the space he opens up.

Rudi Garcia’s side will need to be wary of leaving themselves exposed though. Antoine Griezmann and Diego Costa are lethal in attack.

Match Odds

Atletico are the clear favourites to win in 90 minutes at 19/20, with the French side at 16/5. The draw is 9/4.

Atletico have the best defensive record in Europe’s top leagues this term (20 goals conceded). They’re 2/1 to Win to Nil.

But if the Spanish side do go behind, there’s no need to panic. Two of the last three Europa League finals have seen the winner go a goal down before coming back. Atletico are 12/1 to win from behind.

Griezmann has 14 goals in his last 19 outings. He’s the most likely goalscorer here at Evens.

His strike partner Costa is 7/4 to get on the scoresheet.

After getting 22 goals in the league, Thauvin is 12/5 to net for Marseille in Lyon tonight.
