Odds, team news and tips ahead of vital PL clash

Chelsea will be looking to keep their fourth-place hopes alive with victory over Huddersfield Town at Stamford Bridge this evening.

The Blues could overtake rivals Tottenham Hotspur with all three points against the Terriers, should Spurs drop points at home to Newcastle United.

David Wagner’s men will be looking for the solitary point which would secure a second consecutive Premier League campaign.

How will things turn out in West London? The Coral News Team have previewed the encounter with another Big Match Breakdown…

Head-to-Head

Antonio Conte’s men recorded a comfortable 3-1 victory when the two sides met at the John Smith’s Stadium in December.

Goals from Tiemoue Bakayoko, Willian and Pedro put the Blues into an unassailable three-goal lead. Laurent Depoitre bagged a consolation in stoppage time for the hosts.

History isn’t on Huddersfield’s side in this one, either. They’ve lost six of their last seven matches against tonight’s opponents. Can they turn that around tonight and arrest a run of three Premier League away wins all season long?

Likely XIs

Conte is expected to start with a more attacking line-up against the travel sick Terriers. That should mean a shift from 3-5-1-1 to 3-4-2-1. Olivier Giroud will retain his place up-front, with Willian and Eden Hazard supporting from behind.

Huddersfield doggedly held Manchester City to a 0-0 draw at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday. Wagner isn’t expected to deviate too much from that set-up as a result. Mounie and Alex Pritchard will continue to spearhead the attack.

Chelsea vs Huddersfield - Football tactics and formations

Key Battles

Can Town shackle Chelsea’s attacking talents? If they can keep Willian and Hazard quiet – and mark Giroud to good effect – they’ll have as good a chance as any.

Mathias Jorgensen, Christopher Schindler and Terence Kongolo will need to work effectively as a unit and then attempt to use Aaron Mooy and Jonathan Hogg as the catalysts to break from midfield.

The powerful Mounie can cause the hosts’ brittle defence problems.

Match Odds

Chelsea are the overwhelming favourites for the match at 1/5. You can back the draw at 11/2, and Huddersfield at 18/1.

The Terries rewarded Double Chance punters away at Man City on Sunday. They’re 19/5 to do so again.

Giroud has netted four goals in his last five matches. He’s 5/6 to Score Anytime and 14/5 to Score First. Bakayoko showed plenty of improvement at home to Liverpool at the weekend. He’s an outside pick at 16/5 to bag against the Terriers once again.

Mounie is rated the visitors’ best hope at 5/2. Meanwhile, it’s 5/4 for there to be Under 2.5 Goals in a match between two sides who will not want to give anything away.
