Paul Nicholls’ charge favourite for glory

Saturday sees the return of the Coral Scottish Grand National, and there’s a familiar name at the head of the betting.

Vicente is 10/1 to win this race for the third year in succession. Paul Nicholls’ charge didn’t compete at Aintree, so should be fresh ahead of another tilt at Ayr glory.

However, it’s a strong field. Ballyoptic and Vintage Clouds are both 12/1, with five horses all priced at 14/1, including Daklondike and Sizing Tennessee.

Meanwhile, it’s 20/1 for Cogry to grab glory, having finished second to Vicente in last year’s race.

Coral’s David Stevens said: “Having missed the Grand National due to the rain-softened going, a drying week should ensure it’s all systems go for Vicente and he’s now clear favourite to become the first horse to win three Scottish Nationals.”

As for the Scottish Champion Hurdle, Nicky Henderson’s Whatswrongwithyou is 6/1 joint-favourite, with Chesterfield at the same odds.
