Scu Says “Eamon has a really good chance at Aintree”

The ground yesterday rode a lot softer than it walked. It was more Soft ground than Good to Soft, which you could probably tell when you saw the way the races panned out. The likes of Finian’s Oscar and L’Ami Serge stayed on well to win their races. Even in the Mares’ Bumper we didn’t go that quick but the winner ground it out in the end. Normally when a horse breaks clear like Gino Trail did it’s very hard to get them back. It’s certainly the softest ground I’ve ridden on around there at this meeting.
1.45 Aintree – Eamon An Cnoic
He ran very well at Cheltenham. This drop back in trip will suit. We thought he was going to win a nice race last season but it didn’t quite happen for him. I think he has a really good chance. That said it’s a competitive race. You’d have to give Storm Home plenty of respect.
4.05 Aintree – Rathlin Rose
He is going to have to be better than he was around this course back in December in the Grand Sefton. He ran pretty poorly that day. He did slip at the Canal Turn when he was creeping in to it. He’s improved since then. He ran really well in the Coral Welsh Grand National and then at Sandown a couple of times and when winning a Veterans’ Chase at Ascot last time.
Having seen the way the course rode in the Foxhunters then it will suit him. If there’s a drop of rain it wouldn’t hurt either. If he finished in the first four or five he’d have run really well. I’m not sure he has quite enough speed to win it. He may just be tapped for toe.
5.15 Aintree – Kateson
Kateson has been running well. He has shown a good level of form but this would be his toughest race yet. Realistically a finish in the top six would be great.
