1.50 Newmarket – Ekhtiyaar
I like this horse. He won a nice race at the July Course last summer and did well to win that day. He’s a lovely big scopey horse and doesn’t mind a bit of juice in the ground. There were good reasons why he didn’t run so well at Ascot on his last start so he can be forgiven that. He’s a horse that Roger Varian thinks a bit of and I’m hoping he can progress as the season wears on into being better than a handicapper.
3.35 Newmarket – Nawassi
She is very interesting. She was well fancied first time out at Newmarket and she bombed out completely. I then rode her next time and she won very convincingly at Newmarket beating a very nice horse trained by Charlie Hills. She is a nice filly but with these trials you never really know what to expect. She has been going very nicely at home though. It doesn’t look like a really strong Nell Gwyn. I’ve ridden Juliet Foxtrot and she’s a nice filly but my filly is definitely a bit under the radar and should run well. She could be decent.
7.15 Kempton – Tahreek
I then hot foot it down to Kempton to ride Tahreek for Sir Michael Stoute. I haven’t ridden this horse. He was fifth of fifteen in a Newmarket maiden last year and he ran a nice sort of race. He’s well bred; a half-brother to Mustajeeb who is a Group 2 winner. I don’t know an awful lot about him but he’s in the right hands
7.45 Kempton – Wufud
Charlie Hills’ horses have been quite forward this year. A few of them have won and this three year old is a half-brother to Muhaarar. It will be really interesting to see how he goes. I’m looking forward to riding him.
8.45 Kempton – On Fire
I don’t know much about this horse. I’ve had a few winners for James Bethell so we’ve been quite lucky together. It’s a long way for him to send a horse from North Yorkshire so I doubt he’s coming down for his health.
