It’s not all over despite Man City becoming champions
Manchester City may be Premier League champions, but the season isn’t over yet.
There’s plenty to play for up and down the league in the final weeks.
The Coral News Team discusses five things still to be decided…
Second place
Having been so comfortably beaten by their so-called noisy neighbours this season, the least Manchester United can do is finish second.
But Jose Mourinho’s Red Devils have allowed Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur to close the gap.
All three teams will go straight into the Champions League group stages next year, but finishing second still means much more than finishing fourth.
Relegation
Southampton blew it on Saturday when they let a 2-0 lead slip against Chelsea.
But the Saints can still turn it around, as can Stoke City. West Bromwich Albion still aren’t down yet either.
The Premier League has seen late twists time and time again. A win or two for any of those three will have sides above sweating. There’s still time.
Top goalscorer
Mohamed Salah leads the way on 30 goals, but Spurs and Harry Kane have made it quite clear they want the top goalscorer gong too.
The Englishman has work to do, but Kane and Spurs have a knack for a late-season flurry of goals. A hat-trick or two would make things interesting.
Top half for the Toon
Newcastle United’s squad is little-changed from that which played in the Championship last season.
So for the Magpies to be staring at a top-10 finish is a mighty achievement from the players and manager Rafael Benitez.
A top-half finish might just be the ticket to see the Toon Army’s drawn-out takeover deal finally get the momentum it needs.
Burnley gunning for Arsenal
Burnley and Sean Dyche have been rightly lauded this season. They’ve worked wonders and spent the entire campaign keeping Arsenal honest in the top seven.
And they could be rewarded with a top-six finish. The Clarets’ 2-1 win over Leicester City on Saturday pushed them to within two points of the Gunners.
With Arsenal focusing on the Europa League, there’s a real chance the Lancashire outfit could finish in a stunning sixth-place.
And that victory over the Foxes also all-but guaranteed Dyche’s men a place in the Europa League next season.
