We’ve scoured the globe for top action

Wednesday night is set to produce a veritable feast of football, with action from top competitions around the world.

As well as two big Champions League clashes, there’s action from the Copa Libertadores. That’s in addition to vital games from Serie A, Ligue 1 and the Ladbrokes Premiership.

Here are the Coral News Team’s pick of the bunch…

Celtic – 1/5

The Hoops are looking for a seventh win in as many meetings with Dundee this Wednesday. Brendan Rodgers’ men have also kept clean sheets in the last three meetings, including a 2-0 win at Dens Park in the last clash.

This time the Dark Blues are off to Celtic Park. And it’s likely to be a long night for them. The Tayside club have lost five of their last seven games, including a 4-1 rout at the hands of bottom club Ross County. It’s hard to see past an easy win for Celtic.

Monaco – 6/5

AS Monaco continue their bid to secure second-spot in Ligue 1 when they visit Rennes. And Les Monegasques have a terrific record in this fixture. The principality club have won each of the last four meetings, scoring 15 goals and conceding three.

Leonardo Jardim’s men are unbeaten in their last six league away games, a run which has included 4-0 defeats of Angers and St Etienne. As for the hosts, they’ve lost five of their last eight home games in all competitions.

Hellas Verona – 16/5

Wednesday night sees the bottom two in Serie A do battle, as Verona visit Benevento. But despite the pair sitting next to each other in league position, there’s something of a gulf in class between them.

Verona have picked up 22 points to their hosts’ meagre 10 in the league so far. And survival remains a realistic aim for I Gialloblu, while Benevento are all-but-relegated. Verona won October’s meeting between the pair, and should take the spoils again.

Barcelona – 2/9

Rewind to mid-December and AS Roma looked like genuine challengers for the Serie A title. But four defeats and three draws in 14 games have seen them slip away – and the out-of-sorts Giallorossi should be easy prey for Barca at Camp Nou.

The Catalan club’s last 24 home games in the Champions League have produced 22 wins and two draws – including a 3-0 defeat of Chelsea last time out. Add in their stellar form in La Liga, and another UCL triumph for Barca looks likely.

Penarol – 3/4

The five-time Copa Libertadores winners are always a force on the big stage. And Wednesday sees them host last season’s surprise package from Argentina – Atletico Tucuman.

The little-known visitors have won just once in seven games in all competitions, including a 2-0 home loss to Libertad on Matchday One. With Penarol battling for the title in their native Uruguay, they’re in by far the better form – and have the pedigree.
