Odds and preview ahead of UCL tie

Manchester City need to conjure a minor miracle if they’re to see off Liverpool and reach the Champions League semi-finals tonight.

The Citizens are 3-0 down from the first-leg and come into the match off the back of two successive defeats. Pep Guardiola’s men need three goals without reply to send the tie to extra-time and four to qualify.

If the Reds score just once, City will need to strike five times at the Etihad Stadium to go through.

It’s all set up to be a rip-roaring encounter in the blue half of Manchester. And the Coral News Team have got another Big Match Breakdown to guide you through the action…

Head-to-Head

Pep Guardiola’s men have only won one of their last six fixtures against the Reds. But that was a 5-0 drubbing at the Etihad earlier in the season.

Since then Jurgen Klopp’s men have beaten their UCL foes 4-3 in the Premier League and 3-0 in Europe. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah all scored in last week’s victory at Anfield.

Likely XIs

City look set to welcome back Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker after the pair started on the bench v Manchester United on Saturday. Sergio Aguero has missed the last few matches through injury but is expected to return to lead the line. Vincent Kompany should continue to partner Nicolas Otamendi at centre-half.

Andrew Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Roberto Firmino and Oxlade-Chamberlain will all earn recalls after missing the Merseyside derby. Emre Can and Jordan Henderson will both be missing, however. That could mean another start for Georginio Wijnaldum alongside James Milner and the aforementioned Ox.

Man City vs Liverpool - Football tactics and formations

Key Battles

Klopp’s contingent have enjoyed success against the Citizens by disrupting their rhythm. The hosts will need to start on the front foot to ensure that doesn’t happen again.

City possess far greater technical ability in the middle of the park in the absence of Henderson and Can for Liverpool. Can De Bruyne, Fernandinho and David Silva take advantage of that?

Remaining disciplined in their approach will also be key for the home side. If they concede just a single goal, their UCL campaign will be put in further doubt.

Match Odds

Manchester City are considered the overwhelming favourites for the match at 1/2. You can back Liverpool at 5/1, with the draw at 18/5.

However, it’s the Reds who are favourites for the tie. Klopp’s men are 1/7 to progress against 4/1 for the Citizens.

Meetings this season have proved to be anything but ordinary. Three fixtures have produced 15 goals. Both sides will put their attacking prowess to good use once more tonight. It’s 1/2 for Over 2.5 Goals and 6/5 for Over 3.5 Goals.

You can also back City and Both Teams to Score at 17/10.

Aguero was missing from the first-leg but did net the first goal in the match at the Etihad in September. He’s 3/1 to repeat the feat this evening.

Salah looked imperious before going off injured last week. He’s 6/4 to add to his tally Anytime. Oxlade-Chamberlain, who has already bagged twice v City this season, is 13/2 Anytime.
