Europa League Acca Picks: Lyon, Lazio and Atleti feature
A £5 wager on tonight’s picks could return £50
The Europa League enters the round of 16 tonight, and things are starting to get serious.
A number of clubs are pinning their hopes of Champions League football on winning the tournament, as Manchester United did last season.
There are several intriguing ties to enjoy this evening, and the Coral News Team have picked out a few of angles to look for…
Lyon – 31/20
Lyon have gone off the boil of late, failing to win four of their last five. That’s caused their chances of finishing in the Ligue 1 Champions League spots to nosedive, so they should focus heavily on the Europa League.
An away trip to CSKA Moscow isn’t without its pitfalls. CSKA haven’t conceded in their last four games. But Lyon have plenty of quality up front in Nabil Fekir, Memphis Depay and Mariano Diaz.
Lazio – 2/5
Lazio are locked in a fierce fight with Roma and Inter for the two Champions League spots in Serie A behind Napoli and Juventus.
As such, they’ll also be pouring their energies into securing Europa League success.
The Roman outfit have won seven of their last 10 at the Stadio Olimpico, while visitors Dynamo Kiev have failed to win nine of their last 13 Europa League away games.
Atletico Madrid – 1/5
Atletico Madrid are favourites to win the Europe League this season. Diego Simeone’s men boast arguably the best squad left in the competition, plus they have bags of big-game experience to call upon.
They’ve developed an extra edge up front since the return of Diego Costa in January. His arrival has sparked Antoine Griezmann into life and Atleti are near their best right now, which doesn’t bode well for Lokomotiv Moscow.
Sporting – 2/5
Sporting were 2005 UEFA Cup runners-up and they’ll be eager to go one better this time around.
The Portuguese side host Viktoria Plzen and have lost just one of their last 23 home games.
That defeat came against Barcelona, which tells you something about the quality needed to beat Sporting at the Estadio Jose Alvalade. Plzen have won just one of their last 11 away games in the Europa League.
RB Leipzig – 4/6
Leipzig are another side whose path to the Champions League may well lie in winning the Europa League.
The German outfit are winless in four but have played Napoli and Borussia Dortmund in that spell.
Visitors Zenit Saint Petersburg don’t travel well. The Russian side have failed to win seven of their last eight away games, so Leipzig will be seeking to gain the first-leg advantage tonight.
