Scudamore says: “I can’t wait to ride Moon Racer again”
Top jockey has a hectic schedule this weekend
I’ve got a busy weekend ahead with four rides at Newbury on Saturday and then seven at Exeter on Sunday.
It’s a fabulous card at Exeter on Sunday with some great races and I’m really looking forward to it.
My biggest challenge of the weekend might be trying to avoid the rugby score until I get home on Saturday so I can watch it as if it’s live!
I’m certainly in the Welsh camp when it comes to rugby and we were all brought up supporting Wales so I’ll be hoping they can win at Twickenham this weekend.
Saturday – Newbury
He’s been showing some decent levels of form, rated 125 now, and has run some good races behind some good horses and we’re really hopeful that he’ll have a good chance.
He’s a solid type that still has plenty of improvement in him.
She has been a top class mare, running finishing fourth to Apple’s Jade in the Mares’ Hurdle at Cheltenham last season, and it seems like everything is being geared up for a return to the festival.
I’m really looking forward to riding her, she’s been a real great servant over the years for the owner and the yard and hopefully she will go well.
I can’t wait to ride Moon Racer again. He’s been in good old order at home, I schooled him in the week and we were very happy with him.
He’s had his problems, with colic and some other trouble, but he’s showing all the right signs at home. He seems as enthusiastic and classy as ever and let’s hope he is back to his best.
We’ll try and get a good start. I’ve hit the crossbar so many times in this race with some great rides, it’s a brilliant race and I’d love to win it.
This horse ran really well on its first start in England last month and was slightly unfortunate not to win. This a hot bumper and he’ll have to be very good to win but he’s a horse I like a lot and I’m really looking forward to the ride.
Win, lose or draw I definitely think he’s one to follow.
Sunday – Exeter
2.00 – Drama King
He’ll need to step up on what he’s done so far as this looks a competitive race.
Golden Sunrise is a lovely horse and we’ve a fair bit to find to get involved but hopefully he can build on what he has done so far and continue in the right direction.
2.30 – Vision Des Flos
This is my first time on this horse which is exciting. He’s been running well without getting his head in front, showing a very good level of form, but this is a good race.
We’ve seen some very nice horses win this race in the past such as Melodic Rendezvous but the form of his last race has worked out really well and hopefully he can step up to the plate.
3.05 – Poker Play
I still think the best of Poker Play is yet to come. He’s better than he’s shown so far and hopefully he will start getting himself back on track at Exeter.
He’s a future chaser but he’s only five and the best is definitely still to come.
3.35 – Gentleman Jon
He’s been very consistent over the years but this is a cracking race. Harry Topper will be hoping for a mudbath and Pete the Feat has also been incredibly consistent but we’ve got a chance.
I think these veteran races are tremendous and they’ve certainly been brilliant additions to racecards.
They’re really competitive and they’re giving horses a chance to stay in training and win races. We’ve seen Paddy the Oscar win recently aged 15 and there’s definitely room for more races like this.
4.10 – Ramses De Teillee
Rames De Teillee is rated 148 now and he just keeps on improving. It was a cracking performance last time out at Chepstow and he’s got an excellent chance here.
I know Elegant Escape very well and he’s a very good horse.
He is really taking to fences, improving with every run, but my ride here has also improved an awful lot from the start of the season and fully deserves his place in this hot race.
4.40 – Le Rocher
Le Rocher has been brilliant this year. He’s won three over fences and has improved every time with his best performance coming last time out.
He’s still got plenty to learn but he’s a very good chance here and is taking to fences really nicely. He’s one of my best rides this weekend.
5.10 – Just Midas
My final ride of the weekend is a newcomer for David Pipe.
He’s been going well at home and whilst it’s early days, we’ll certainly know more about him after this. Hopefully he can run a nice race and start in the right direction.
