Nine-year-old had an excellent 2017

Blaklion is the current favourite for Grand National in April. And the nine-year-old has also been installed as frontrunner for the Haydock Grand National Trial this Saturday.

The nine-year-old is 10/3 to win the trial this weekend. Nigel Twiston-Davies’ charge won the Handicap Chase at Aintree during his last outing in December. And he’s many people’s tip to win the National, at 10/1.

In this weekend’s Trial field, The Dutchman is second-favourite at 6/1. Another from Tizzard’s stable, the eight-year-old won last month’s Grade 2 Handicap at Haydock.

He’s followed in the betting by Three Faces West (13/2), Wild West Wind (7/1) and Vieux Lion Rouge (8/1).

As for the National odds, Total Recall at 16/1 looks likely to be Blaklion’s toughest challenger.

Coral’s David Stevens says: “”Blaklion has been clear favourite for the National since his Becher Chase victory before Christmas, and if he justifies favouritism in Saturday’s Trial his Aintree odds could well shorten again.”

**Grand National Trial

10/3 Blaklion, 6/1 The Dutchman, 13/2 Three Faces West, 7/1 Wild West Wind, 8/1 Vieux Lion Rouge, 9/1 Daklondike, 10/1 Mysteree, bar 14/1

**Randox Health Grand National
