Mourinho’s current club face his old employers

Two of England’s biggest clubs face off on Sunday, as Manchester United host Chelsea. But both sides are in need of a pick-me-up after a patchy run of results in the Premier League.

They’ve each lost two of their last three league games, but both pulled off solid draws in the Champions League in midweek. The Red Devils played out a goalless clash with Sevilla, while Chelsea recorded a 1-1 draw at home to Barcelona.

The Coral News Team have all the info you need ahead of kick-off, in another Big Match Breakdown…

Head-to-Head

In terms of the clubs’ all-time record, United lead Chelsea by 75 victories to 53. However, most of the Red Devils’ wins in this fixture are pretty ancient history.

In fact, the Manchester club have won just one of the last 14 meetings. The Blues have triumphed in eight, while five have ended with honours-even.

However, there is a glimmer of hope for Jose Mourinho and co. They enjoyed a 2-0 victory over Chelsea at Old Trafford in April 2017.

Likely XIs

Following a poor performance at Sevilla, Romelu Lukaku could find himself replaced by Marcus Rashford. The youngster scored in last season’s 2-0 victory.

In the United defence, fit-again Eric Bailly could make his return. He was on the bench in midweek, and could partner Victor Lindelof. The Red Devils’ midfield is unlikely to change much from the one that started in Spain.

For Chelsea, Tiemoue Bakayoko is back from suspension and could return to the starting XI. It hasn’t all been smooth sailing for the summer signing from Monaco, but his power and physicality could be key against a robust United side.

Key Battles

Chelsea have had a fair bit of success by packing the midfield this season, and United’s creative men will need all their skill and guile to break them down.

The likes of Jesse Lingard and Alexis Sanchez are both in decent form, but will need to be at the top of their game to break down a Blues side who are likely to sit deep.

The visitors are likely to play a lone forward against a United side who’ve kept four successive clean sheets in M16.

Whether or not it’s Giroud, Chelsea’s front-man will need good hold-up play and to compete physically against one of the league’s biggest defences.

Match Odds

In the Match Betting, United are favourites at 6/5. There’s 11/5 on offer for the Draw, while Coral’s trading team make it 9/4 for a Chelsea victory.

Only one of the last seven meetings has seen both sides register, and Both Teams to Score – No is 10/11. Meanwhile, none of the previous three have produced more than two goals, and Under 2.5 Goals is priced up at 7/10.

Of the possible goalscorers, Chelsea’s Willian is in good form right now. He scored twice against Hull City last weekend, before breaking the deadlock against Barcelona. The Brazilian is 10/3 to register anytime.
