Premier League goalscoring hero also discusses Newcastle’s takeover

If Alexis Sanchez had two years left on his current contract in this current climate he would be valued at around £80m to £100m.

If Manchester United get a player of his quality for only £35m, it will be a great deal for them.

Whether it is the right choice for the player remains to be seen. He could be going to one of the biggest clubs in the world, steeped in history and with a manager that is a serial winner and from that point of view it looks like a very good move for him.

However, he’s very unlikely to win the Premier League this season at United and it’s impossible to say right now that he will win more trophies than he would at Manchester City.

There’s something special going on at City at the moment and there’s no guarantee that United can break that up.

It won’t send out a good message to the Arsenal fans. If one player lets their contract run down then that can be understood but for three to be in that situation then it is either misplaced loyalty or misguided management.

Arsenal are lagging behind in the race for the top four now and it looks like the only way they can qualify for the Champions League next season is to go and win the Europa League.

I watched them at Bournemouth last week and they were terrible, so you’d have to say that’s doubtful right now.

They were awful, other than Jack Wilshere. Bournemouth wanted it more, they were better than them, they were quicker than them.

Newcastle Takeover

It doesn’t look like the Newcastle takeover will happen. If it is off then that is very disappointing and if Mike Ashley doesn’t invest some money now in this transfer window it is going to be a very tough battle for survival in the Premier League.

This will again raise question marks over Rafa Benitez’s future.

We don’t know what promises he has been given but I really do feel that if transfer funds aren’t made available then Rafa will quite rightly be considering his future at Newcastle United.

That would be a disaster in my opinion.

They are in a relegation battle and it was always going to be a long hard season which is why they need to free up some funds and give them the best opportunity to stay up with Rafa in charge.

Alan Shearer

Alan Shearer played his entire career at the top level of English football, winning the Premier League title with Blackburn in 1994-95. The following summer he signed for his hometown club, Newcastle United, for a then world record £15 million fee.

He ended his playing career with a record 260 Premier League goals, which still stands today. He also won 63 caps for England, including 34 as captain, and among his 30 international goals were five scored at Euro 96, a total that won him the Golden Boot at that tournament.

Now the chief pundit on Match Of The Day, Alan was one of the first two players inducted into the Premier League Hall Of Fame this year.
