NFL Wild Card: Bills’ 18-year wait, Ryan’s playoff form & more
Published:
Playoffs get underway this weekend
This weekend heralds the return of the NFL playoffs, with the Wild Card games. Amongst those involved are last year’s Super Bowl finalists Atlanta Falcons and a Buffalo Bills team making their first appearance of the Millennium.
With four all-or-nothing clashes awaiting, the Coral News Team take a look at the key storylines in the weekend’s games.
Can Ryan repeat last year’s playoff form?
A string of crucial wins saw Atlanta Falcons rescue a Wild Card spot, following a difficult start to the season. But to continue their revival, Quarterback Matt Ryan will need to repeat the form he showed in last year’s playoffs.
The Falcons QB threw for a combined 1,014 yards in last season’s three playoff games. And Atlanta’s offense will need to be at their best to outscore a Los Angeles Rams side who are the NFL’s highest-scorers.
Atlanta look good value in the Money Line at 5/2. But with two excellent offenses in action, those looking for a safe call could be rewarded by Over 48.5 Points at 10/11.
Can Saints make it three for three against Panthers?
The NFC South has been packed with quality this year. Three of the division’s sides have made the playoffs.
But despite the top two both boasting an 11-5 record, New Orleans Saints have dominated their meetings with Saturday’s opponents Carolina Panthers.
The Saints also have home advantage for this game, and are eyeing-up an eighth successive win at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Coral News Team can’t see past a home victory, with the New Orleans -8.0 handicap their pick of the bets at 6/5.
How will untested Bills handle playoff test?
Buffalo Bills fans have been waiting 18 years for their side to make the playoffs. That moment is finally here, thanks to victory over Miami Dolphins on New Year’s Eve.
On paper, their Wild Card game at Jacksonville Jaguars looks a very tough task. But with the Jags losing their final two games of the season, the hosts could find it hard to regain momentum.
The Bills’ road form has been unpredictable, but they have enjoyed victories in Atlanta, Miami and Kansas City. That means the Buffalo +7.0 handicap looks generous at 27/20, while the Bills to Win could also be worth a flutter at 7/2.
