NFL Playoffs: Titans’ comeback streak, Eagles’ dominance & more
Meanwhile, New Orleans head to Minnesota
The NFL season is down to the last eight, with the Divisional playoffs taking place this weekend.
Once again, the Coral News Team have taken a look at the key storylines ahead of gameday. They begin with the Titans’ visit to the current Super Bowl holders…
Can Titans produce another comeback masterclass?
Tennessee Titans are involved in the playoffs for the first time since 2008. But having produced an incredible comeback win at Kansas City Chiefs in the Wild Card round, they’re doing far more than just making up the numbers.
The Titans are real outsiders as they travel to New England Patriots, with 13/2 for the visitors to reach the AFC Conference Final. But despite the odds, the stats show they have a glimmer of hope.
A never-say-die attitude has seen the Titans recover a fourth-quarter deficit to win on three occasions this term, including turning a 21-10 deficit in Kansas into a last-gasp victory.
The Pats have lost twice at home this season, each time after leading after the second quarter. Even if the favourites win, they’re unlikely to have it easy. The Tennessee +10 handicap looks generously-priced at 29/20.
Will it be joy for Saints’ star rusher or Vikings’ top receiver?
Minnesota Vikings have topped the NFC North, thanks largely due to a strong defense and the performances of Wide Receiver Adam Thielen. The 27-year-old picked up the second-highest yardage of any NFC receiver in the regular season.
They host a New Orleans Saints side whose Running Bag Mark Ingram has chalked up well over 1,000 yards this term. That’s seen the former Heisman Trophy winner chalk up a stunning 13 Touchdowns this year.
With so much attacking talent involved, the value could well be on a high-scoring game.
Total Points: Over 46 could be a good call at 10/11, while Ingram to Score a TD Anytime is also appealing at 10/11. As for Thielen, he’s 11/10 to do the same.
Eagles looking to continue home streak against Falcons
Atlanta Falcons have shrugged off a patchy start to the season to make it to the Divisional playoffs. But if history is anything to go by, that’s as far as they get. Because this weekend sees them travel to face Philadelphia Eagles.
The Eagles have won seven of their last eight home games against Atlanta, including a comfortable 24-15 victory during the last clash, in November 2016.
Increasingly strong in defense, Philadelphia have now limited six opponents to 10 points or fewer this season. Total Points: Under 41.5 looks a safe bet at 10/11, though backing Philadelphia in the Money Line seems very generous at 27/20.
