Addition of Anfield starlet would be icing on the cake

There’s no smoke without fire. And in the case of Juventus signing Emre Can, there’s a lot of smoke.

The Serie A champions have been long-linked with the Liverpool midfielder and now look set to complete a deal.

Reports are that the German international will sign a pre-contract with the Old Lady and move to Turin in the summer.

Signing the 23-year-old Can would represent immense business considering he would arrive on a free transfer.

If the move does go through, it would solidify Juve’s reputation as kings of the transfer market.

It would also mean Juventus having one of the fearsome midfields in world football. The Bianconeri would be able to call upon the likes of Can, Sami KhediraBlaise MatuidiMiralem Pjanic, and Kwadwo Asamoah.

Can’s possible arrival at Juventus Stadium would certainly provide Max Allegri’s squad with a more youthful look.

The Liverpool metronome provides a rare dynamism from midfield that harks backs to the old-style box-to-box midfielders of the 90s and early 2000s.

Can has a fantastic engine, great passing ability, tackle, and score goals. In that regard, he is very similar to both Khedira and Matuidi.

It would likely mean Allegri rotating the three over the course of the season with two of the three playing behind Pjanic in a more forward role.

Losing Can would certainly be a huge blow to Jurgen Klopp. The former Bayer Leverkusen player’s development has come on leaps and bounds under the German’s tutelage.

Juventus have reportedly offered Can £85,000 a week in wages, however.

And although the Anfield outfit would be able to match or better it, the prospect of Serie A titles would surely be too tempting.

It seems as though Can’s move to Turin is a matter of when, and not if.
