Is Irons striker heading to Russia?

West Ham United striker Andy Carroll scored his first Premier League goals of the season in Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat of West Bromwich Albion. And the latest odds suggest the 28-year-old could carve a way back into England’s World Cup squad.

The Irons forward is now 8/1 to make the Three Lions’ squad for Russia.

Carroll has experience at a major international tournament – playing three times in Euro 2012. But his last England appearance to date came more than five years ago.

Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead said: “If Andy Carroll can stay fit and keep scoring then it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that he could break into the squad, however it remains unlikely at the moment.”

As it stands, Harry Kane is the most likely man to make the plane, at odds of 1/20.

Coral’s trading team also make Marcus Rashford (1/10), Jamie Vardy (1/5) and Jesse Lingard (4/6) hot-favourites to make the cut.

Jack Wilshere’s recent revival has seen the 26-year-old backed in from 5/2 to 6/5 to make the plane.

Meanwhile, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has also been cut to 4/6 to secure a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad.

Young forward Tammy Abraham could be set for his first taste of the big stage with England. The Swansea City forward is 3/1 to continue his meteoric rise by heading to World Cup 2018.

At the other end of the pitch, Jack Butland and Jordan Pickford are 5/6 joint-favourites to start England’s first World Cup game. As for 75-cap man Joe Hart, he’s out at 7/1.

Aitkenhead added: “Lingard now seems a certainty to be in the final squad whilst we’ve seen a number of bets on Jack Wilshere after he finally managed to break into Arsene Wenger’s first team plans.”
