Midfielder is on the radar

Sevilla midfield Steven N’Zonzi could be heading for a return to the Premier League.

The ex-Stoke City man has reportedly fallen out with coach Eduardo Berizzo after being substituted against Liverpool in the Champions League a fortnight ago.

And that has put a host of England’s elite clubs on alert. Arsenal, Everton and Manchester City are all believed to be interested in the 28-year-old.

Here, the Coral News Team assess the midfielder’s potential destinations.

Arsenal

The Emirates appears to be N’Zonzi’s most likely destination. Arsenal were keen to bring the Frenchman to North London in the summer but could not agree a fee with Sevilla.

Arsene Wenger will have space in his squad with the impending departure of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil. Plus, with Santi Cazorla set for a further spell on the sidelines, N’Zonzi could provide the creative spark in the centre of the field that Arsenal dearly need.

Standing at 6ft 3in, the ex-Blackburn Rovers man would also provide the Gunners midfield with strength and power. He could be the all-round midfielder that the North Londoners have been crying out for.

Everton

According to Sam Allardyce, Everton’s midfield lacks the necessary ‘bite’ and experience. N’Zonzi could cure those ills with a £35m move in January.

Everton have the funds to be able to afford the Frenchman. Plus, they could almost certainly guarantee the 28-year-old a starting berth.

Big Sam also has the added advantage of having worked with N’Zonzi before. The ex-England boss signed the midfielder while at Blackburn Rovers. He subsequently went on to make 49 appearances for the Ewood Park club.

There’s no doubting that the two-cap France international has improved as a player since then. And that could make him the perfect fit on Merseyside.

Manchester City

Manchester City appears the least likely destination for N’Zonzi at the moment. But Pep Guardiola is believed to be a fan. And with the Citizens short in central-midfield compared to other areas, a move could be on at the right price.

This wouldn’t be the first time the Citizens have gone in for the Frenchman either. Guardiola failed with a loan swoop for the Sevilla ace last January.

With City still fighting on all fronts going into the New Year, the Sky Blues may feel the need to bulk up on their options by the time January comes around.
