3 potential Premier League destinations for Kevin Gameiro
French forward on the move?
Atletico Madrid striker Kevin Gameiro is wanted by a trio of Premier League clubs.
In the past week, Everton, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have all been linked to the French striker.
With a switch to the English top-flight looking likely, the Coral News Team run the rule over the potential destinations for the 30-year-old…
Everton
Everton are a club in need of a top-class centre-forward. And that makes Goodison Park the most obvious destination for Gameiro. The 5ft 7in ace has scored goals wherever he has been.
From stints at Lorient, Paris Saint-Germain, Sevilla and Atletico Madrid, the Frenchman has proven himself to be a reliable marksman. Even this season, he’s managed four goals from just 10 appearances.
The Toffees have the cash to take Gameiro from Wanda Metropolitano. Plus, he’s a marquee name that comes with experience at international level and in the Champions League. Despite his advancing age, the Frenchman would solve a serious problem up-front for Sam Allardyce’s charges.
Newcastle United
The Geordies love a French buy. If they can land Gameiro, it would be their most prolific signing of the lot. He’d fit in at St James’s Park, too.
Rafael Benitez’s side lack an out and out goalscorer. For the North-East club to go to the next level in the Premier League, Gameiro is the type of signing they need to make.
However, the issue could be the Frenchman’s price. The 30-year-old won’t come cheap. And that’s an issue for Benitez under the current Newcastle hierarchy. If a move is to take place, then a takeover needs to happen.
Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham could do with another striker. But at this stage, North London looks the least likely destination for Gameiro.
Spurs rarely play with a front two. And with the Atletico-ace unlikely to displace Harry Kane as the Lilywhites’ central-striker, he’d have to be content with a place on the bench most weeks.
For a man who is reportedly moving away from the Spanish capital to increase his chances of game-time, a switch to the current Wembley tenants doesn’t make a great deal of sense.
