NFL Week 12: Wilson’s 49ers test & out-of-form playoff chasers

Bills and Chiefs desperate to regain momentum

Week 12 of the NFL season may be on the horizon, but everything is still to play for. Of the eight conferences, five of the sides sitting top have a lead of two wins or less.

One of those is the NFC West, where Los Angeles Rams sit narrowly ahead of Pete Carroll’s Seattle Seahawks. The Hawks face a crucial test against a San Francisco 49ers side showing signs of improvement on Sunday night.

That’s among the key storylines the Coral News Team are looking at this weekend. Read on for that, as well as a look at a vital clash for two playoff contenders struggling with a dip in form…

In-form Wilson must dampen 49ers winning feeling

After a string of narrow defeats – including a 12-9 loss in Seattle – Kyle Shanahan’s 49ers got their first win of the season last weekend.

They saw off New York Giants, racking up 31 points in the process. So the Seahawks offence need to be on their game as they head to Levi’s Stadium in this NFC West clash.

This fixture is likely to hang on how Quarterback Russell Wilson performs. Only Tom Brady has thrown for more than Wilson’s 2,801 yards this season. Despite an unusually leaky defensive display in Monday’s defeat to Atlanta Falcons, the 28-year-old was still in stellar form during a 34-31 loss.

If he does his bit, the Seahawks defence should be able to quash a 49ers side who haven’t conceded more than 18 points on any road game this season.

Beating the Giants is one thing, overcoming Seattle is quite another. However, the Coral News Team think it will be tight. They’re backing Seattle to Win by 1-6 Points at 5/2.

Stuttering playoff chasers need boost in Kansas

Kansas City Chiefs sit top of the AFC West, while Buffalo Bills are the closest challengers to New England Patriots in the East. However, despite both having designs on the play-offs, both head into this game on the back of multiple losses.

The Chiefs’ offence was unstoppable in the early weeks. However, they’ve managed just two Touchdowns in their past two games combined. As for the Bills, their defence has fallen apart, conceding 101 points over their past two weekends.

KC will be pleased to be back at Arrowhead Stadium, where they’ve won three of their four games so far this season.

In truth, the hosts shouldn’t be too worried. Their two recent losses have both come narrowly. So they should have enough to comfortably see off a Buffalo side who seem to be unravelling. The KC Chiefs -8.0 handicap looks worth backing at 5/6.

Do Panthers have enough to win at Jets’ fortress?

Carolina Panthers are firing on all cylinders at present. Wide receiver Devin Funchess and Christian McCaffrey shone again with TDs in the 45-21 defeat of Miami Dolphins in their last game. That was the most points the Florida side had given up in a game since 2009.

But this Sunday represents a special test. The Panthers visit the New York Jets – a side they’ve never beaten on the road.

As for the Jets, they’ve won three from five at home so far, with only last year’s Super Bowl finalists coming out on top at MetLife Stadium. They’ve been fairly high-scoring on their own patch, and put 34 points past the Bills in the last game here.

The Coral News Team think there’ll be plenty of points scored in this clash. Over 40.5 Points looks generously priced at 19/20. Meanwhile, backing the Jets to Win in the Money Line could prove a value bet at 15/8.
