Big win for Blues, another top-six defeat for Mourinho

It was another big few days of Premier League action over the weekend.

Manchester City stretched their lead at the top of the table to eight points, while Chelsea had a big win over Manchester United.

At the bottom, West Ham United took another home pasting. But Everton bagged a big win at the death.

The Coral News Team look at the five key talking points of another dramatic weekend.

Mourinho parks another top-six bus away… and loses again

Manchester United’s limp defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge extended Jose Mourinho’s poor record away at the big top-six.

Under the Portuguese manager, United have won zero games away against the traditional top six clubs. The Red Devils have also scored just one goal in those games.

It’s not good enough for a club of Man United’s magnitude. Mourinho’s tendency to be overly cautious and defensive in these big away games is costing his team points.

Remarkable comeback win for Everton

Maybe it’s pivotal moment in Everton’s season. Maybe it’s not. However, coming from 2-0 down to win 3-2 against Watford was huge.

David Unsworth’s introduction of Ademola Lookman and Dominic Calvert-Lewin seemed to inject life into the Blues.

The youngsters performed brilliantly with the latter levelling the game just six minutes after coming on. The pace and vibrancy they provide could be the template Unsworth works off from now on.

Burnley just three points off the top-four

Another brilliant away win at Southampton for Sean Dyche’s team mean Burnley climb to seventh. The Clarets are now level on points with Liverpool and Arsenal.

While he is consistently linked with a move to Everton, surely Dyche would be mad to leave Turf Moor at this juncture?

If they can maintain this form to some degree throughout the season, a European place could be the Clarets come May.

Is Kevin De Bruyne the best player in the world?

Man City’s magnificent 3-1 win over Arsenal made it nine Premier League wins in a row.

Kevin De Bruyne was once again pulling the strings for the Citizens with another imperious performance.

On current form, the Belgian is arguably the best player in the world. His vision and passing ability are simply out of this world.

With Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo a little quiet compared to their usual standards, could a sea change be taking place?

Who’s next for West Ham?

West Ham suffered another ignominious defeat at home to Liverpool on Saturday evening.

The Hammers went down limply 4-1 in front of their own fans, slipping into the relegation zone.

Slaven Bilic looked completely deflated in his post-match press conference and was duly sacked on Monday morning.

Who do owners David Gold and David Sullivan turn to next? The World Cup play-offs have come at just the right time.
