Fierce rivals meet in National League clash

Chester face Wrexham for the 115th time (across the Seals’ two incarnations) on Wednesday night, as the Dragons make the 13-mile drive across the border. And it’s Dean Keates’ visitors who will head into this clash with more confidence.

The North Wales outfit have taken 11 points from their last six away games in the National League, keeping five clean sheets in the process. That run included 1-0 victories at promotion-chasing pair Dagenham & Redbridge and Boreham Wood.

As for the Seals, they’re enduring a miserable run of form. They’ve won just one of the last seven games in all competitions. The main issue has been a lack of goals, with Chester failing to find the net in four of those outings.

With the visitors boasting the division’s joint-best defensive record and struggling Chester among the league’s lowest scorers, Coral’s Bet of the Day is Wrexham to Win to Nil at 11/4.

Hosts likely to edge it in second period

Of Wrexham’s last five victories, four have been level at half-time. In fact, nine of the visitors’ last 11 goals have come following the interval.

As for Marcus Bignot’s side, they’ve conceded 11 times after the break in their past 12 games, giving up a 95th-minute goal in a 1-0 loss at Maidstone less than a fortnight ago.

Add the fact that five of the Dragons’ last six goals in Head-to-Heads with Chester have come in the second period, and Half-Time/Full-Time: Draw/Wrexham looks generously priced at 17/4.

Experienced hitman can make the difference

While Wrexham aren’t a particularly high-scoring side, they’ve been able to rely on the evergreen Chris Holroyd. The former Macclesfield Town striker has scored four times in the Dragons’ last seven league games.

Interestingly, he’s contributed the final goal of the game on two of those occasions, closing out the scoring against Eastleigh and Tranmere Rovers. The Welsh side have also won both of those games.

The 31-year-old striker also knows how to find the net against the Seals, having struck the winner in a 3-2 victory over Chester in his time at Moss Rose.

That means the Coral News Team like the look of Last Goalscorer: Chris Holroyd at odds of 5/1.
