Premier League legend reviews the season so far

Manchester City have taken the Premier League to a level this season that I have never seen before in this league.

They have yet to be asked a serious question.

They won at Chelsea with ease and had no problems against Liverpool and Arsenal. At this moment in time they are a long way ahead of the chasing pack.

More drama for Mourinho

I thought Manchester United were poor at the weekend against Chelsea. United were only dangerous when they brought Fellaini on and started kicking it long towards him.

It has to be a concern to Manchester United fans as City went to Stamford Bridge and beat them convincingly. That tells you how far City are ahead of their rivals.

There have been suggestions that Mourinho is not happy and PSG being interested in his services.

Maybe those rumours have been circulated on purpose to distract the attention from the team as their performances have not been great recently.

Tottenham must build on potential

Spurs have proved they can beat anyone on their day but they still have to win a trophy for them to fulfil their potential.

They are out of one cup competition in the League Cup already this season.

 Mauricio Pochettino has been linked with Real Madrid and a few people have said he could be their next manager if they do replace Zidane, however, the same can be said about him in that he also needs to win a trophy.

We keep saying how promising the team is and how impressive it is that they bring young players through but eventually they have to turn that into silverware.

Why leave out Lacazette?

I don’t understand what Arsene Wenger did last weekend with Lacazette.

He paid £50 million for a striker, a player who has scored twice as many league goals than any other player in their squad, and then he leaves him out for such an important game and plays Alexis Sanchez in his position, a guy who has refused to commit to the football club.

 What kind of message does that send out to both Lacazette and the rest of the team?

I am not saying there was anything wrong with Sanchez’s workrate, but he did have a poor game.

I thought Arsenal went into the game looking to press high against Manchester City but it didn’t look like everyone was on the same page.

They didn’t appear to understand what they were doing, when to press as a team or when to sit and be compact.  You can’t just come up with a system like that at the last minute, these things take weeks and months to master.

Same old Liverpool

We have seen nothing this season to suggest anything has changed with Liverpool. They are still all over the place defensively.

Going forward they can score goals and give anybody a game on their day. Salah has been brilliant and is their top scorer.

That looks money well spent, however, when push comes to shove, they have been caught out defensively just like they did last season.
