Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester City are all in action

The Champions League roars back into action on Tuesday with only two games of the group stages remaining.

The competition is starting to heat up now. Most teams don’t have any room for error. A slip-up could see their hopes in the competition ended.

There are eight games tonight across four groups. Here’s what you need to know ahead of kick-off…

Will Tottenham close in on top spot?

Tottenham Hotspur’s superb 3-1 win against Real Madrid put them in pole position in Group H.

Finishing top of a group containing the European champions and Borussia Dortmund would be a great achievement. But it would also prevent them from facing other group winners in the second round. As it stands, that includes the likes of Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.

A win away at Dortmund on Tuesday would see them tighten their grip on the top spot. It could make all the difference to their chances in the knockout stages.

Can Manchester City complete a perfect group stage?

Manchester City have been in sensational form this season. Saturday’s win against Leicester City was their 17th consecutive victory in all competitions.

Pep Guardiola’s side are on course to become only the seventh side to win all six Champions League group stage matches. They’ve already beaten Serie A leaders Napoli home and away. They should be too strong for Feyenoord at home in their next outing.

City are 9/2 second-favourites to win the competition for the first time this year. It’s hard to read too much into their performances at this point of the season. But a perfect record in the group stage would show their European rivals that they need to be taken very seriously.

Will Liverpool maintain control of Group E?

Group E is the most open after four games played. Only three points separate the top three teams. Liverpool are top with eight points, only one point ahead of second-placed Sevilla. The two clubs face each other in a match that will likely determine the group winner.

The Reds are 6/4 favourites. But they can’t afford to be complacent. Juventus are the only side to have beaten Sevilla at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in the last 12 months.

Anything less than three points and Jurgen Klopp’s side could find their place in the knockout stages at risk.

Can Besiktas keep up their form?

Besiktas have been the surprise package in Group G so far. They’ve picked up 10 points from four games. They’re three points clear at the top, with Porto, RB Leipzig and Monaco trailing behind.

A win at home to Porto would ensure they finish as group winners. No side will look forward to a trip to the Vodafone Arena. Besiktas haven’t lost a home game in European competition since their new home opened in April 2016.
