Leading bookmaker Coral make Republic of Ireland 5-4 to qualify for the 2018 World Cup after they drew Denmark in the play-off draw this afternoon. Northern Ireland are 5-2 to make it through to Russia as they were paired with Switzerland, while Coral is offering 7/1 that both Irish teams make it to the major tournament next summer.

In the first leg match betting, Republic of Ireland are 10-3 to win in Denmark, while Northern Ireland can be backed at 11-5 to win in Belfast.

“The betting suggests that is the best draw Republic of Ireland could have got as they would have been bigger to qualify against either of the other three seeded nations,” said Coral’s John Hill.

“Northern Ireland clearly have it all to do but their one saving grace is that they avoided Italy who would have been much shorter to qualify at their expense,” added Hill.
