Five talking points from the weekend Premier League action

Late twists at the top and bottom

It was another dramatic few days in the Premier League this weekend. Manchester City maintained their five-point lead at the top, while Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes took a blow.

There was late drama at the bottom of the table too, and as ever, the Coral News Team are on hand to round-up the big talking points…

Martial is Man United’s new Solskjaer

Anthony Martial proved to be Tottenham Hotspur’s downfall on Saturday.

The Frenchman latched on to Romelu Lukaku’s header to net a late winner at Old Trafford.

It was his fourth league goal of the season, an impressive tally given that he’s only started three times.

From nine appearances Martial is averaging less than half an hour of game-time this term, but he’s consistently creating an impact when coming off the bench. Much like former Man United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Are Arsenal all that bad?

While fans and pundits alike rave about Tottenham and their squad, Arsenal are now just a point behind them in the table.

Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Swansea City took Arsenal to an impressive 10 wins from 12 games in all competitions.

But November will be a stern test of the Gunners’ credentials. They head to Man City on Sunday, before a home North London derby with Tottenham the following weekend.

Can Puel contain the Foxes?

Leicester City won the Premier League less than 18 months ago, but the Foxes are already on to their third manager since then.

Claude Puel is the latest to take the hotseat, and got off to a flying start with a 2-0 win over Everton.

But both Claudio Ranieri and Craig Shakespeare enjoyed honeymoon periods before things turned sour. Will Puel go the same way?

Tough times for the Terriers

Before the campaign began, Huddersfield Town and David Wagner would surely have taken 12 points from 10 games.

On that ratio the Yorkshire side will easily stay up. But take the opening two games out of the equation and things look far more concerning.

The Terriers have collected just six points from the last eight fixtures, and worryingly they’ve scored just three goals in that time.

A 3-0 defeat at Liverpool wasn’t unexpected, but it did mean Wagner’s men have now failed to net in four of their last five league games.

Palace can build on last-gasp point

So often in football the scoreline fails to tell the story. Crystal Palace needed a 97th-minute equaliser to claim a draw at home to West Ham – despite dominating the match.

Roy Hodgson’s side boasted 56% possession and had 20 shots on goal to West Ham’s six.

Amazingly the Irons netted with their only two shots on target, while the South London outfit forced Joe Hart into several saves. And they hit the woodwork twice.

Hodgson rued the fact they didn’t win the game, but there’s still time to climb out of the bottom three.  For now, the important thing for Palace was the performance, which was one of their best this season.
