Enable Arc Success a grim result for bookies say Coral

Enable’s history making success in today’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe was a “great result for Racing but a grim result for bookies” according to leading bookmaker Coral, after the Frankie Dettori ridden star was heavily backed into 10/11 for today’s big race.

“There’s no sugar-coating it, Enable’s history-making Arc win was a great result for Racing but a grim result for bookies,” said Simon Clare, Coral PR Director.

“Punters love a champion and Enable was heavily backed all day both in our shops and online. We held the 11/10 for much of the day but the money kept coming so it was no surprise that she started odds-on,” said Clare.

“It’s always a double-edged sword for bookies when these equine stars come along  – the likes of Sea The Stars, Frankel, Golden Horn,  and now Enable – as their presence significantly boosts betting interest and turnover, but their relentless success hits bookies in the pockets. Enable has cost the bookies many millions of pounds this year,” added Clare.

“For bookies though it’s definitely a case of taking short term pain for long term gain, as we need these champions to come along and enthral people and broaden the appeal of racing, and that benefits everyone connected with the sport including bookies,” concluded Clare
