Debbie McGee attracts a flurry of bets to win Strictly
Leading bookmaker Coral has seen a flurry of bets in the last 12 hours for Debbie McGee to win Strictly Come Dancing in 2017 after she topped the leaderboard in the latest round of performances. The former magician’s assistant was a 25-1 outsider before the series got underway and if she does go on to lift the Glitterball Trophy, she will be an expensive result for the bookmakers.
Alexandra Burke remains the 9-4 favourite to go all the way after last night’s show. Aston Merrygold is second best in the outright market at 11-4, while Gemma Atkinson’s odds have been cut again, this time into 7-2 (from 4-1) following another strong week.
Before he was eliminated this weekend, Brian Conley was 3-1 in the ‘next to depart betting’, while odds-on favourite Simon Rimmer survived again.
“Debbie’s rumba was a huge hit with punters as they have been backing her to go all the way on the show this year which would be a costly result for the bookmakers as she has been well-backed since week one of the series,” said Coral’s John Hill.
“Brian Conley has been near the top end of the elimination betting every week and sadly his luck ran out this weekend. Simon clearly has a strong following with the public as, despite being odds-on to go, he has survived for at least another week,” added Hill.
