Chizzy elimination a surprise according to bookmakers

Leading bookmaker Coral made Chizzy Akudolu a 12-1 shot to become the first contestant to leave Strictly Come Dancing this series before they closed betting on the market last night. Brian Conley and Simon Rimmer the 5-2 joint-favourites to be eliminated, however, managed to survive for at least one more week.

In the outright market, Aston Merrygold remains the 5-2 favourite to win the show, however, Coral has seen another flurry of bets for Debbie McGee who is now 7-2 to lift the Glitterball Trophy, much shorter than the 33-1 which was available on her before the series began.

“Chizzy’s exit did come as a surprise to us and punters as all the money was for Brian and Simon to leave first before we closed betting on the market,” said Coral’s John Hill.

“Although Aston is the favourite to win the series, we are now becoming increasingly concerned about this gamble behind Debbie McGee as punters are knocking us over to back the former magician’s assistant to go all the way this year,” added Hill.
