England striker’s performance is vital

Tottenham Hotspur head into the lion’s den on Tuesday night as they face the might of Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Mauricio Pochettino and co. will clash with the double European champions at Santiago Bernabeu. It doesn’t get much harder than that.

However, if you’re a Spurs fan, there are three good reasons to be optimistic about getting a result in the Spanish capital.

Let the Coral News Team sooth your nerves ahead of the big game with some expert insight.

Harry Kane is the key to victory

Quite obviously, the England international holds the keys to three important points at the Bernabeu.

Kane’s recent goal-scoring exploits have been remarkable to witness.

He managed 13 goals in September alone for club and country and followed that up with another two in October for England. He is a forward bang in form.

Real’s defensive line tends to have problems with quick and powerful forwards. Kane is as big, pacey and deadly as they come.

If he can carry on in this vein, Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane will have their work cut out.

Counter-attack is king

Everyone knows how good Real are in attack, but they will always give up chances at the back.

Under Pochettino, Spurs will press high up the field and that should force errors from Los Galacticos.

Real are generally quite weak at defending the flanks. If the Argentine can push his raiding full-backs a little higher up, they can capitalise on any errors to devastating effect.

As mentioned earlier, Harry Kane is in clinical form and will bury nine out of 10 chances put on a plate for him.

Premier League form at Bernabeu

Real don’t tend to lose many Champions League games in Madrid. In fact, they have lost just seven UCL games over 90-minutes at the Bernabeu since 2006.

However, two of those defeats have come against Premier League teams. Arsenal in ’06 and Liverpool in ’09.

This will definitely be a test of how good Spurs actually are, but their away form suggests they could cause a shock.

The Londoners have struggled at their Wembley base so far, but they have been imperious on the road.

Five away wins is a clear sign of a side that thrives outside their comfort zone.

Real haven’t exactly hit top form yet either this term. They’re five points behind Barcelona already and have beaten a La Liga side by more than three goals just once.

It all stands to reason that Tottenham might just pull off one of the great wins in their long history.
