3 potential new managers to replace Shakespeare at Leicester

A trio of prospective replacements based on three categories

It was announced yesterday evening that Craig Shakespeare had been relieved of his duties as manager of Leicester City.

After a poor start to the campaign, the Foxes’ owners decided enough was enough and pulled the plug on Claudio Ranieri’s ex-assistant.

Shakespeare replaced Ranieri after his ruthless sacking last season. While the 53-year-old pulled the East Midlands club clear of trouble last term, he leaves the Foxes mired in the relegation zone.

Who now do Leicester’s Thai-based custodians turn to this time around? The Coral News Team give their recommendations from the current betting list.

Realistic Option: Sam Allardyce – 7/2

When a Premier League club is in trouble, the first name that pops up on any list is Sam Allardyce.

The ex-Sunderland, Bolton Wanderers, and England boss has an innate ability to steady a sinking ship.

His organisational ability and penchant for no-nonsense, direct football could suit this Leicester squad.

He has stated on a few occasions now he has “retired”. But a return to club management with a mid-table Premier League club could be just the ticket for Big Sam.

Optimistic Option: Thomas Tuchel – 10/1

The former Borussia Dortmund head coach is a free agent and has been mentioned in the betting with a handful of Premier League jobs.

Tuchel’s brand of football is fast and frenetic, but he is tactically very astute and would bring an organisation to this Leicester squad.

However, the 44-year-old could be waiting on a much bigger job. He still has a reputation as one of the best young trainers in European football.

The Foxes will have to move fast, and offer plenty of reassurances to snag Tuchel.

Ambitious Option: Luis Enrique – 20/1

Many of you will scoff at the notion of a former Champions League winner with Barcelona taking up the Leicester post.

But Premier League managerial jobs at every level are highly attractive due to the financial power of England’s elite clubs.

Enrique needed a break after the Barca gig, but could be tempted back in earlier than expected.

The 47-year-old is not adverse to new challenges, having taken up positions at Roma and Celta Vigo before going back the Camp Nou.

With a reputation for excellent attacking football and a disciplinarian approach, Enrique would be a good fit at the King Power.

Overly ambitious, maybe – but it would certainly be worthwhile approaching the ex-Blaugrana legend.
